SIGNIFICANT OTHER FEAT. ROSABELLA ALLEN

For the latest edition of the Kuboraum Digital Sound Residency, we welcome UK-born, Berlin-based DJ, producer, and curator Significant Other with ‘Lust on Your Shoulders’, a new work created together with Rosabella Allen.

Operating at the fringes of contemporary electronic music, Significant Other has long cultivated a liminal, emotionally charged sound world where ambient drift, dub-infused shadows, and rougher club sonics fold into one another. First emerging from the Brooklyn underground, where he co-founded the influential event series and label Club Night Club, he became known as a covert curatorial force behind a new wave of late-2010s dance music. His releases, scattered across key UK imprints and often devoid of any biographical framing, positioned him as an enigmatic presence navigating the more skewed, atmospheric ends of modern electronic production.

With his 2021 debut album Residuum on Manchester’s cult label YOUTH, he stepped further from the dancefloor and into a spectral, textural register: a full-length exploring tension, release, and catharsis in slow motion. In the years since, his work, and his DJ sets alike, has only grown more difficult to define, slipping fluidly between introspection and propulsion, structure and dissolution, presence and disappearance.

In 2024 he launched Pain Management, a record label and Berlin event series dedicated to outsider sound and anti-dancefloor expression, spoken word, hellish dub, avant-garde electronics “body music for restless minds.” Lust on Your Shoulders extends this spirit, channeling a tender but volatile emotional charge amplified by Rosabella Allen’s vocal presence, pushing the project into new narrative and sensorial territory.

Rosabella Allen is a Manchester-based artist whose work spans poetry, visual art, and experimental music. Her work explores the complexities of love, the quiet beauty in the self-contained narratives we carry as individuals and the collective energy emerging from club spaces.
Across both her solo practice and as vocalist for the Manchester/Glasgow-based trio Shell Company, her distinctive prose and heart-sleeve vocals have drifted above a range of electronic and post-rock influenced musical styles. Collaborations include entries to Rainy Miller’s stellar Fixed Abode outlet and work alongside fellow ‘Northern Gothic’ outsiders such as Richie Culver & LINTD.

Arriving ahead of a major long-form work slated for 2026, this Kuboraum Sound Residency offers an early, intimate signal of what is to come: a deepening of the project’s textural language, its emotional bandwidth, and its ongoing search for new forms of suspended, fugue-state listening.
