LUCRECIA DALT & ALEX LAZARO

After a short hiatus, Kuboraum’s Digital Sound Residency returns with Colombian composer, vocalist and sound artist Lucrecia Dalt joining forces with percussionist, composer and producer Alex Lazaro for Synonym Mask, a sonic reworking of Kuboraum’s manifesto into voice, rhythm and shifting layers of sound.

Over the past decade, Lucrecia Dalt has established herself as one of the most singular voices in contemporary experimental music. Originally trained as a civil engineer before dedicating herself fully to artistic practice, her work merges electronic composition, narrative structures and vocal experimentation into deeply immersive sonic worlds. Her acclaimed albums, including ¡Ay! and A Danger to Ourselves, have expanded the possibilities of experimental songwriting, while her recent work as a composer for film and television has further deepened her exploration of sound as a storytelling medium.

Alex Lazaro is a percussionist, composer and producer. In performance, Lazaro reimagines the drum kit as a sculptural jungle gym—a gaudi-esque architecture of percussion that demands full-body rotation. In the past a marimbist, then a jazz drummer, Lazaro has made his own assemblage of the instrumental timbres he grew up with: marimba, vibraphone, flexatone, timpani, octobans and of course, the Rototom. His new solo act is an extraordinarily energising display of percussion.

Lazaro’s work has appeared in Lucrecia Dalt’s 2022 ¡Ay! and in her latest album A Danger to Ourselves. In recent years, he has been working as a studio and touring percussionist with artists such as Fuensanta, Juana Aguirre, Lara Dâmaso, Camille Mandoki and Matias Aguayo, among others.

Presented as part of the Kuboraum Digital Sound Residency, Synonym Mask continues the platform’s commitment to fostering exchanges between artists working across disciplines, geographies and forms, creating new spaces for experimentation, encounter and collective imagination.
